Yiwu Gushu Sheng Pu Erh 2004 (400g) Tee Cake
Song Pin Hao 宋聘号
Song Pin, a centuries-old Pu Erh tea house, was founded in the sixth year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1880 AD) and is famous for producing large quantities of high quality Pu Erh teas. Headquartered in Shiping County, Yunnan, the tea factory is located in Yiwu City, an important city in the Six Great Tea Mountains (historically, much of Pu Erh tea production and operations in Yiwu came from Shiping).
Our Yiwu Sheng Pu Erh 2004
This Yiwu Sheng Pu Erh was made by Song Pin Tea House in 2004 and was stored in Chaozhou, Guangdong for 10 years before arriving at our tea shop in early 2021. The tea used Gushu material from Yiwu Mountain, where Pu Erh tea is located, famous for its sweet taste and soft tea texture. Yiwu Pu Erh was crowned Queen of Pu Erh Tea, while Bulang Pu Erh (Lao Ban Zhang in particular) is known as King of Pu Erh. We do not know in which village in Yiwu Mountain Yiwu Sheng Pu Erh was made in 2004, as Pu Erh tea terroirs were not that specific at the time.
This 2004 Sheng Pu Erh makes tea drinkers understand “茶 甘 水柔” (tea sweet water gently), a description that people often used to refer to Yiwu Pu Erh tea.
Not just the tea is sweet with velvety Texture, the various layers of complexity are very clear from the start. The first two infusions are strong woody and medical with an aroma that on honeysuckle remembered, and its returning sweetness is beautiful - it is gently sweet, cooling and lingering in the throat. From the third infusion onwards, the sweetness not only comes as a huigan (returning sweetness), but fills the mouth and throat at the moment when the tea liquid slides in. The tea is sweet, fruity and velvety and at the same time has its bones, strong and full of energy. The taste is complex with multiple layers to explore. The consistency of the tea is round and soft to cover the tongue and throat. Its returning sweetness is such a long-lasting and joyful reward.
Be extremely velvety Tea consistency with its caramel and its fruity sweetness in the later infusions suggests that the tea is so creamy.
If you are curious what a half-aged Sheng Pu Erh of the highest quality looks like, you should not miss this tea. One becomes a big fan of Yiwu Sheng Pu Erh after the experience, as well as a fan of Song Pin Tea House with this tea.
