About Zhuni in general

Zhuni is the most prized Yixing clay. It is red with a hint of orange. Decades ago, the clay was banned from being mined. This pot is made from old Zhuni clay that the Yixing craftsman has stored for decades. The clay is very popular because it transforms beautifully after a few months of use. The color changes to a dark and shiny red, almost like a layer of beautiful glaze. But of course the pot is not glazed at all, the color change is only due to the interaction between the clay and the tea prepared in it. A Zhuni is significantly less porous than a Zini or Duanni.

The Zhuni teapot is suitable for preparing white oolong tea and is perfect for young and old Pu Erh tea.

A Zhuni teapot is quite expensive not only because of the extinct Zhuni clay, but also because it shrinks a lot when fired. The teapots shrink from a large size to a much smaller size in the kiln, and most of them break in the process. Therefore, it is very difficult to successfully make a teapot from Zhuni clay.

About Zhuni Dundun Hu

The Zhuni material used to make a teapot can be completely raw (unfired ore) or mature (crushed and made into clay from fired ore). A Zhuni teapot made from mature material will have obvious shrinkage wrinkles on the surface after firing, while a Zhuni teapot made from raw material will have mostly sandy grains and no wrinkles on the surface despite the high shrinkage percentage. Our Zhuni Dundun Hu is made from raw ore, and the grainy structure of the surface is a typical feature of a raw Zhuni. The teapot with a capacity of 75ml is great for making white oolong tea as well as young and old Pu Erh tea.

This Zhuni Dundun Hu is semi-handmade, meaning the main body is made using a mold while the handle, spout and lid are entirely handcrafted.

The teapot has a smooth and quick pour , which is important for brewing Pu Erh tea, as some Pu Erh teas can quickly become too strong if poured slowly.
