Reduction firing technique
Ceramics are normally burned in a Kiln full of Oxygen which is needed for the fire to keep burning. If we make sure that there is enough oxygen in the kiln to make it burn fully, it is known as "oxidation firing". On the contrary, when the kiln chamber is made to be lack of oxygen, the firing process will extract oxygen that it needs from everywhere it can, including the surrounding clay and glaze. This is known as "reduction firing". The result of a reduction firing is that the ceramics turn black or darker colour than the original because all oxygen is extracted from the material.
Zhuni is the most cherished Yixing clay. It is usually red with a hint of orange. A Zhuni teapot is very expensive not only because of the extinct Zhuni clay, but also because it shrinks a lot during firing. The teapots shrink in the kiln from a large size to a much smaller size, and most break in the process. Therefore, it is very difficult to successfully make a teapot from Zhuni clay.
The shape of this Zhuni teapot is called siting, the name is a pavilion that evokes nostalgic memories of the past or someone. This gongfu teapot is mini, only 80ml. It is perfect for drinking gongfu tea alone, to enjoy exclusive teas and just to collect the teapot for aesthetic reasons.
The teapot is semi handmade, i.e. H. the body of the teapot is made using a mold, while the details such as the spout and the handle are entirely handmade. And the teapot is handmade in antique style and has no filter.

Reduction-fired Yixing Zhuni Siting 朱泥思亭还原烧 (80 ml)
Geliefert wird das Kännchen in einer sehr schönen Geschenkbox samt Kannenhülle aus edel anmutendem Satin. Das beiliegende Herkunftszertifikat gibt es leider nur in Chinesisch. Eine deutsche Übersetzung beizulegen, wäre ein freundlicher Dienst am Kunden.
Das Kännchern ist handwerklich sehr sorgfältig gearbeitet, der Deckel hat den Dichtetest tadellos bestanden, man könnte seine helle Freude daran haben, wären da nicht bereits nach der ersten Teezubereitung an zwei Stellen kleine Glasurabsplitterungen festzustellen gewesen (s. Fotos). Da beide Schadstellen an derselben Seite des Kännchens zu sehen sind, vermute ich einen Mangel im Brennvorgang. Derartiges musste ich bislang noch bei keinem anderen meiner sieben Yixing-Kännchen feststellen. Anscheinend ist der Reduktionsbrand für Zisha-Ton nicht unproblematisch. Habe Teewald schon vor Wochen von diesem Mangel informiert, aber bis heute keine Antwortauf mein Schreiben bekommen. Kaufe mit Sicherheit nie mehr ein Zisha-Ton-Kännchen aus Reduktionsbrand.
